Redneck Tech: Camera Tricks

Need to take a far away picture, but the zoom on your camera is weak? A local hunter showed me that you can hold a spotting scope or binoculars in front of the camera lens on your smartphone to make an “optical zoom”. Pretty neat stuff…Makes me wonder what you could pull off at a sporting event.

 

For reference this deer is about 50 yards away (in my back yard), with the digital zoom on my camera at half or so, and a pair of 4×30 binoculars. With some practice, you can get some nice photos on an HTC One S….
