These devotions are designed for small youth groups of 3-15 students. Each one includes a Scripture passage, a big idea in one sentence, a discussion question, and a practical application for the week. They are designed to take 15-20 minutes and to generate genuine conversation.
They are organized by theme. Use them in order or pick and choose based on what your group needs.

Identity and Worth (Weeks 1-8)
Week 1: Made in God’s Image
Scripture: Genesis 1:27 | Big Idea: You bear the image of God, which means you have inherent worth that no one can take from you. | Discussion: What does it mean practically that you are made in God’s image? | Application: This week, treat one person you normally overlook as someone who bears God’s image.
Week 2: Known by Name
Scripture: Isaiah 43:1 | Big Idea: God knows you by name, not by your performance or your reputation. | Discussion: What would change about how you live if you truly believed God knows and loves you specifically? | Application: Write your name on a piece of paper and put it somewhere you will see it every day this week.
Week 3: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
Scripture: Psalm 139:13-14 | Big Idea: God made you on purpose, not by accident. | Discussion: What is one thing about yourself that you have a hard time believing God made on purpose? | Application: Thank God for one specific thing about yourself that you usually wish were different.
Week 4: The Comparison Trap
Scripture: Galatians 6:4 | Big Idea: Comparison is a thief that steals your ability to be who God made you to be. | Discussion: Who do you most often compare yourself to? What does that comparison cost you? | Application: Delete one social media app for one week and notice what changes.
Week 5: Chosen
Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9 | Big Idea: You are chosen by God, not because of what you have done, but because of who he is. | Discussion: What does it feel like to be chosen? When have you felt unchosen? | Application: Choose someone this week who is often overlooked and include them intentionally.
Week 6: New Creation
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17 | Big Idea: In Christ, you are not a reformed version of your old self. You are genuinely new. | Discussion: What is one thing about your old self that you are glad is gone? What is one thing you are still working on? | Application: Write down one thing you want to leave behind and one thing you want to become.
Week 7: Adopted
Scripture: Romans 8:15-16 | Big Idea: You are not a servant in God’s household. You are a child. | Discussion: What is the difference between relating to God as a servant and relating to him as a child? | Application: Pray this week using the word “Father” and notice how it changes the conversation.
Week 8: Enough
Scripture: Philippians 4:11-13 | Big Idea: Contentment is not a feeling. It is a learned discipline. | Discussion: What is one thing you are always chasing that you think will finally make you feel like enough? | Application: Name three things you have right now that are genuinely good. Thank God for them specifically.
Faith and Trust (Weeks 9-16)
Week 9: What Faith Actually Is
Scripture: Hebrews 11:1 | Big Idea: Faith is not certainty. It is trust in the face of uncertainty. | Discussion: What is the difference between faith and certainty? Can you have faith and doubt at the same time? | Application: Write down one thing you are trusting God for that you cannot control.
Week 10: When God Feels Silent
Scripture: Psalm 22:1-2 | Big Idea: Feeling like God is absent is not the same as God being absent. | Discussion: Have you ever felt like God was not listening? What did you do with that feeling? | Application: Read Psalm 22 all the way through and notice how it ends.
Week 11: The Mustard Seed
Scripture: Matthew 17:20 | Big Idea: God does not require great faith. He requires real faith. | Discussion: What is the difference between great faith and real faith? | Application: Pray for one specific thing this week that you genuinely believe God can do.
Week 12: Trusting God with the Future
Scripture: Jeremiah 29:11 | Big Idea: God’s plans for you are good, even when your current circumstances are not. | Discussion: What is one thing about your future that you are genuinely afraid of? | Application: Write down your biggest fear about the future and give it to God in prayer.
Week 13: When Plans Fall Apart
Scripture: Proverbs 16:9 | Big Idea: You make plans. God directs your steps. Both are true. | Discussion: Tell about a time when your plans fell apart and something better happened. Or when they fell apart and nothing better happened. | Application: Hold your plans for this week loosely and pay attention to what God does with them.
Week 14: The Armor of God
Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18 | Big Idea: The Christian life is not a vacation. It is a battle, and God has given you what you need to fight it. | Discussion: Which piece of the armor do you feel like you are missing right now? | Application: Memorize one piece of the armor and what it represents.
Week 15: Waiting on God
Scripture: Isaiah 40:31 | Big Idea: Waiting on God is not passive. It is active trust. | Discussion: What is one thing you are waiting for right now? What does it feel like to wait? | Application: Do one thing this week that requires patience and offer it to God as an act of trust.
Week 16: God Is Good When Life Is Not
Scripture: Romans 8:28 | Big Idea: God works all things for good, but that does not mean all things are good. | Discussion: What is the difference between saying “God is good” and saying “everything that happens is good”? | Application: Name one hard thing in your life right now and ask God to show you how he is working in it.
Relationships and Community (Weeks 17-24)
Week 17: One Another
Scripture: John 13:34-35 | Big Idea: The way Christians love each other is supposed to be so distinctive that it makes people ask questions. | Discussion: What would it look like for this group to love each other in a way that makes people notice? | Application: Do one specific act of love for someone in this group this week.
Week 18: Forgiveness Is Not Optional
Scripture: Matthew 18:21-22 | Big Idea: Forgiveness is not a feeling. It is a decision, and Jesus commands it. | Discussion: Is there someone you need to forgive? What is stopping you? | Application: Take one step toward forgiving someone this week, even if it is just praying for them.
Week 19: Bearing One Another’s Burdens
Scripture: Galatians 6:2 | Big Idea: You were not designed to carry your burdens alone, and neither was anyone else. | Discussion: What is one burden you are carrying right now that you have not told anyone about? | Application: Tell one person in this group one thing you are struggling with.
Week 20: Conflict and Reconciliation
Scripture: Matthew 18:15 | Big Idea: The biblical response to conflict is direct, honest, and private, not indirect, passive, or public. | Discussion: What is your default response to conflict? How does it compare to what Jesus describes? | Application: If there is a conflict in your life right now, take the first step toward addressing it directly.
Week 21: Encouragement
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:11 | Big Idea: Encouragement is not flattery. It is speaking truth about what God is doing in someone’s life. | Discussion: Who has encouraged you in a way that actually mattered? What did they say? | Application: Encourage one person this week with something specific and true.
Week 22: Hospitality
Scripture: Romans 12:13 | Big Idea: Hospitality is not entertaining. It is making people feel like they belong. | Discussion: Who in your school or neighborhood feels like they do not belong? What could you do about that? | Application: Invite someone who is often excluded to sit with you this week.
Week 23: Accountability
Scripture: Proverbs 27:17 | Big Idea: You need people in your life who will tell you the truth, even when it is uncomfortable. | Discussion: Do you have anyone in your life who will tell you when you are wrong? Do you want that? | Application: Ask one person to hold you accountable for one specific thing this week.
Week 24: The Body of Christ
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 | Big Idea: You are not a complete picture of the church. You need the parts of the body that are different from you. | Discussion: What part of the body do you think you are? What part do you think this group is missing? | Application: Do one thing this week that requires you to depend on someone else.
Mission and Calling (Weeks 25-32)
Week 25: The Great Commission
Scripture: Matthew 28:18-20 | Big Idea: The Great Commission is not optional for Christians. It is the mission. | Discussion: What does it mean for you specifically to make disciples? | Application: Pray for one person by name this week who does not know Jesus.
Week 26: Your Mission Field
Scripture: Acts 1:8 | Big Idea: Your mission field is not somewhere else. It is where you already are. | Discussion: Who are the unchurched people in your daily life? | Application: Learn the name of one person in your daily life who you do not know yet.
Week 27: Gifts and Calling
Scripture: Romans 12:6-8 | Big Idea: God has given you specific gifts for a specific purpose. | Discussion: What do you think your gifts are? How are you using them? | Application: Use one of your gifts in service to someone else this week.
Week 28: Vocation
Scripture: Colossians 3:23 | Big Idea: Whatever you do, you can do it for God. Your work is not separate from your faith. | Discussion: What do you want to do with your life? How does your faith connect to that? | Application: Do one ordinary task this week with the intention of doing it for God.
Week 29: Sharing Your Story
Scripture: 1 Peter 3:15 | Big Idea: Your story is your most powerful evangelism tool. | Discussion: Can you tell your faith story in 3 minutes? Practice it right now. | Application: Tell your story to one person this week who does not know Jesus.
Week 30: Serving the Least
Scripture: Matthew 25:40 | Big Idea: How you treat the most vulnerable people in your community is how you treat Jesus. | Discussion: Who are the most vulnerable people in your community? What is your church doing about it? | Application: Do one act of service for someone who cannot repay you this week.
Week 31: Generosity
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:7 | Big Idea: Generosity is not about how much you give. It is about the posture of your heart. | Discussion: What is one thing you are holding onto too tightly? | Application: Give something away this week that costs you something.
Week 32: Perseverance
Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-2 | Big Idea: The Christian life is a marathon, not a sprint. Perseverance is the discipline that gets you to the finish line. | Discussion: What is one thing in your faith life that you have given up on? Is it time to pick it back up? | Application: Restart one spiritual discipline you have let go of.
Character and Holiness (Weeks 33-40)
Week 33: Integrity
Scripture: Proverbs 11:3 | Big Idea: Integrity is being the same person in private that you are in public. | Discussion: Is there a gap between who you are in public and who you are in private? | Application: Close one gap between your public and private self this week.
Week 34: Humility
Scripture: Philippians 2:3-4 | Big Idea: Humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less. | Discussion: What is the difference between humility and low self-esteem? | Application: Do one thing this week that puts someone else’s interests ahead of your own.
Week 35: Anger
Scripture: Ephesians 4:26-27 | Big Idea: Anger is not always wrong. Unresolved anger always is. | Discussion: What makes you angry? Is that anger righteous or selfish? | Application: Address one unresolved anger in your life this week.
Week 36: Honesty
Scripture: Proverbs 12:17 | Big Idea: Honesty is not just about not lying. It is about being truthful even when it costs you something. | Discussion: When is it hardest for you to be honest? | Application: Tell one hard truth this week that you have been avoiding.
Week 37: Purity
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 | Big Idea: Your body belongs to God, and how you treat it matters. | Discussion: What does purity mean in your specific context? | Application: Make one decision this week that honors God with your body.
Week 38: Contentment
Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:6-8 | Big Idea: Contentment is not settling. It is finding genuine satisfaction in what God has given you. | Discussion: What is one thing you are always chasing that you think will finally make you content? | Application: Fast from one thing you use to fill emptiness and replace it with prayer.
Week 39: Courage
Scripture: Joshua 1:9 | Big Idea: Courage is not the absence of fear. It is doing the right thing in spite of fear. | Discussion: What is one thing you know you should do that you are afraid to do? | Application: Do one courageous thing this week, even if it is small.
Week 40: Perseverance in Holiness
Scripture: Romans 7:15-25 | Big Idea: The struggle with sin is not evidence that you are not a Christian. It is evidence that you are. | Discussion: What is one area of your life where you feel like you keep failing? | Application: Tell one person about your struggle and ask them to pray for you.
Prayer and Spiritual Disciplines (Weeks 41-48)
Week 41: Why Prayer Matters
Scripture: Luke 18:1 | Big Idea: Prayer is not a last resort. It is the first response. | Discussion: When do you pray? When do you not pray? | Application: Pray before you do one thing this week that you would normally just do.
Week 42: How to Pray
Scripture: Matthew 6:9-13 | Big Idea: Jesus gave us a model for prayer, not a script. | Discussion: What does the Lord’s Prayer teach you about what prayer is for? | Application: Pray through the Lord’s Prayer slowly, one phrase at a time, this week.
Week 43: Listening in Prayer

Week 46: Sabbath

Week 47: Worship

Scripture: Philippians 1:6 | Big Idea: God who began a good work in you will complete it. | Discussion: How have you grown this year? What is still unfinished? | Application: Write a letter to yourself about what God has done in you this year. Read it next year.
A devotion without a specific, actionable application is just a discussion. The application is what moves students from thinking about faith to living it. Make it specific, achievable, and connected to their actual daily life.
