A simple, honest annual report template. Download, customize, and present to your congregation.

What a Church Annual Report Should Include

A church annual report does not need to be a polished magazine. It needs to be honest, specific, and focused on what God did through your congregation in the past year. Here is what to include:

  1. A message from the pastor — 1-2 paragraphs on the year’s highlights and the vision for the coming year
  2. Ministry highlights — 3-5 specific stories or statistics from each ministry area
  3. Attendance and membership statistics — average attendance, membership count, baptisms, new members
  4. Financial summary — total giving, total expenses, major budget categories, year-end balance
  5. Vision for the coming year — 2-3 specific goals or initiatives

Tips for a Great Church Annual Report

  • Be specific. “We served 847 meals” is more powerful than “we served many meals.”
  • Be honest. If it was a hard year, say so. Congregations trust leaders who are honest about challenges.
  • Use photos. A few photos of ministry in action are worth more than paragraphs of description.
  • Keep it short. 4-8 pages is enough. Members will not read a 30-page report.
  • Distribute in advance. Give members the report at least one week before the annual meeting so they can review it before voting on the budget.
