An Anatomy of Phishing…

I get several of these spam emails daily, of people trying to disguise themselves as someone they are not for the purposes of getting your banking information.

Be careful, never click the links. Some can even execute code remotely on your computer, which can give you a virus, keylogger, or malware…

 

This particular one stood out. For several reasons:

1. They used FDIC (a Goverment Agency)

2. The email masking was very sophisticated (in your email client you don’t notice until you look at the HTML code of the message)

3. They made a couple big mistakes (see below)

4. They were somehow able to send it by routing  it through Gmail’s servers (they take quite a bit of protection against this sort of thing)
