Bible Story
Jesus in God’s House
Mary and Joseph loved Jesus very much. When Jesus was a tiny baby, they took Him to God’s house, the temple, to thank God for Him. That was a happy day!
Years passed and Jesus grew bigger and stronger. When Jesus was a boy, He went to God’s house again with His mom and dad. He loved to hear stories about God and learn from the teachers there.
One time, Jesus stayed at God’s house to learn more. His mom and dad were worried when they could not find Him. They looked and looked. At last, they found Jesus at the temple, listening and asking good questions.
Jesus loved God very much. He wanted to learn all about His Father in heaven. God loves you and me too, just like He loves Jesus!

- **Show the Bible story:** Read just Luke 2:21–24 (“Jesus was a baby, just like us! God loved Him and took Him to the Temple.”) while pointing to pictures in the Bible.
- **Make a prayer paper:** Give each child a piece of paper. Say, *”Jesus taught us to pray with our hands and hearts. Let’s draw a little prayer!”* Let them color a heart, sun, or star (e.g., “God is love” or “Jesus in the Temple”).
- **Decorate the box:** Glue the paper into the shoebox lid. Add a ribbon to hang it like a prayer. Say, *”This is our prayer to God, just like Jesus!”*
- **Place the box:** Put the box in the center. Say, *”God hears our prayers, just like He heard Jesus!”* Let them take turns putting their prayer in the box.

- “Jesus was a baby, so small and sweet,
- God loved Him, and He went to the Temple with His parents. Let’s pretend!”*

- **Draw a smile:** Pass out a sheet of paper and a crayon. Say, *”Jesus had a big, happy smile! Draw a smile like this: 😊”*
- **Dance like Jesus:** Play a gentle music track (or clap). Say:
- “Let’s dance like Jesus—hands up like He was happy, arms out like He was learning!”* Toddlers mimic the motions.
- **Wrap up:** Say, *”God loves us just like Jesus! He’s always with us, like a baby in the Temple.”* End with a hug group.
- Tip:** For both activities, repeat *”God loves us!”* or *”Jesus is with us!”* often. Keep it short, fun, and interactive!

Missions Spotlight
Among the Jewish people today, the bar/bat mitzvah (coming of age) is a central tradition. Jesus’ visit to the temple at age 12 resonates with Jewish families. Many Jewish people are discovering that Jesus is the fulfillment of everything the temple represented.
To the Cross
At age 12, Jesus said, ‘I must be in my Father’s house.’ He knew who He was and why He had come. Every step of His life was moving toward the cross. Jesus didn’t accidentally end up on Calvary — He was born for it, lived for it, and chose it.
Family Take-Home
This Sunday School lesson tells how Jesus loved going to God’s house to learn about His Father. When He was a boy, He stayed at the temple to listen and ask questions. His wisdom showed that God was always with Him, just like God is always with us.
