In the Beginning, God
Scripture: Genesis 1:1-25
Theme: God is the Creator of all things
Age Group: PreK-K (Ages 3-5)
Overview
God made everything in the whole world! He made the light, the sky, the water, the land, the plants, the sun, moon, stars, fish, birds, and animals. Everything God made was good. This lesson helps young children understand that God is the Creator of all things.
Bible Story
Before there was anything , no people, no animals, no trees, no stars , there was God. God has always been!
God said, ‘Let there be light!’ And there was light! God called the light ‘day’ and the darkness ‘night.’ That was the first day.
God said, ‘Let there be a sky!’ And God made the sky. He separated the water above from the water below. That was the second day.
God said, ‘Let the water be gathered and let dry land appear!’ And it happened! God called the dry land ‘earth’ and the water ‘seas.’ Then God made plants, trees, and flowers grow on the land. That was the third day.
God made the sun to shine during the day, the moon to glow at night, and twinkling stars everywhere. That was the fourth day.
God made fish to swim in the sea and birds to fly in the sky. ‘Be fruitful and multiply!’ God said. That was the fifth day.
God made all the animals , big elephants, tiny ants, roaring lions, and fluffy sheep. Then God made something very special , people! God made the first man and the first woman. That was the sixth day.
God looked at everything He had made , the light, sky, water, land, plants, sun, moon, stars, fish, birds, animals, and people , and said, ‘It is very good!’ Then God rested on the seventh day.

Missions Spotlight
The Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa have an ancient oral tradition about a Creator God. For thousands of years, they have passed down stories about the one who made the world. Now missionaries are sharing the full story of Genesis with these tribes, and many Bushmen are coming to faith in the God their ancestors once knew, the God who sent Jesus!
To the Cross
God created everything good and perfect. He made people to be close to Him and to enjoy His creation. But in the next lesson, we’ll learn that people sinned and broke God’s perfect world. That’s why Jesus came, to fix what was broken and make everything new again. The God who created the world is the same God who sent Jesus to save it.
Family Take-Home
