This free Junior high lesson teaches John 11:1–44 with care: Lazarus’ death, Martha’s and Mary’s grief, Jesus’ tears, and the sign at the tomb.

The complete memory verse is “Jesus wept” (John 11:35, KJV); teachers may read the passage in their preferred translation. The lesson avoids promising a bereaved student that a loved one will return now as Lazarus did.
