David Spares Saul: Mercy with Wise Distance — Grades 1–3 Lesson

Free grades 1–3 Sunday school lesson on 1 Samuel 24:1–22. This reviewed eight-page PDF includes two pages of passage-specific volunteer background, a complete teaching script, a timed plan, six printable sequence cards, a Bible source sheet with answers, and a family page.

Children trace Saul’s pursuit, the cave, David’s robe piece and troubled conscience, his restraint of his men, his public appeal to Saul, Saul’s tears and acknowledgment, the oath, and their separate paths at the end. A real, labeled 1 Samuel 24:12 KJV excerpt replaces the placeholder. The guide makes clear that David’s mercy did not require him to go home with Saul. It explicitly tells children to seek trusted adult help when unsafe and does not use this story to excuse abuse or secrecy.
