God Chooses David: Samuel Anoints Jesse’s Youngest Son — High School Lesson

Free high school Sunday school lesson on 1 Samuel 16:1–13. This reviewed nine-page PDF gives volunteers two pages of passage background, a verse-by-verse guide, a timed plan, a reproducible source study, teacher answers, and a family page. A separate claim check distinguishes what the text says, later Scripture, and unsupported claims.

Students trace Samuel’s grief and fear, the elders’ response, his mistaken first impression of Eliab, God’s correction about appearance, the seven presented sons, David’s summons from the sheep, anointing, and the LORD’s Spirit. A genuine, clearly labeled 1 Samuel 16:7 KJV excerpt replaces the placeholder. The guide does not treat oil as magic, pretend David ruled that day, or imply people can read another person’s heart. 2 Samuel 7, Luke 1, and the gospel are identified as later Scripture.
