Scripture: Genesis 18:1-15; 21:1-7
Theme: Nothing is too hard for the Lord
Age Group: Junior High (7th-9th Grade)
Lesson Overview
The birth of Isaac is one of the great miracle stories in Scripture. Abraham was ‘as good as dead’ and Sarah was barren (Romans 4:19). Yet God promised, and God delivered. Sarah’s laughter of doubt became Isaac’s name — laughter of joy. This pattern runs through Scripture: God does His greatest work when human ability runs out. The birth of Isaac prefigures the virgin birth of Jesus — both impossible by human standards, both accomplished by God’s power. God’s question — ‘Is anything too hard for the Lord?’ — echoes through Scripture to Mary (Luke 1:37) and to every believer facing impossible circumstances.
Connection to the Gospel
Abraham and Sarah were too old for children — but God gave them Isaac. With God, even impossible things are possible (Luke 1:37).
