Scripture: Genesis 18:1-15; 21:1-7
Theme: Nothing is too hard for the Lord
Age Group: 4th-6th Grade (Ages 9-12)
Lesson Overview
Abraham was 99 and Sarah was 89 when God promised them a son. Sarah laughed in disbelief. God’s response was pointed: ‘Is anything too hard for the Lord?’ (Genesis 18:14). A year later, Isaac was born. The name Isaac means ‘he laughs’ — turning Sarah’s laugh of doubt into a laugh of joy. This story reveals God’s faithfulness to His promises, even when circumstances make them seem impossible. Hebrews 11:11-12 commends Sarah’s faith. Isaac’s birth was a miracle — and a preview of the ultimate miracle: God sending His own Son.
Connection to the Gospel
Abraham and Sarah were too old for children — but God gave them Isaac. With God, even impossible things are possible (Luke 1:37).
