Scripture: Genesis 12:1-9
Theme: God calls us to follow Him in faith, even when we don’t know the way
Age Group: Junior High (7th-9th Grade)
Lesson Overview
Abraham’s call in Genesis 12 is the turning point of Old Testament history. God narrowed His redemptive focus from all humanity to one man — and through him, to Israel, and ultimately to Jesus. Abraham’s faith demonstrated radical trust: leaving everything familiar for an unknown destination based only on God’s promise. Hebrews 11:8 calls this faith. But Abraham’s faith was not flawless — he lied about Sarah being his wife (Genesis 12:10-20), showing that saving faith and ongoing struggle with sin coexist. God’s promise to bless ‘all nations’ through Abraham was always the plan — the Gospel before the Gospel (Galatians 3:8).
Connection to the Gospel
God promised Abraham that through him, ‘all the families of the earth shall be blessed’ — a promise fulfilled in Jesus, Abraham’s descendant (Galatians 3:8).
