Lesson Overview

Abraham is the father of faith. God’s call in Genesis 12:1-3 is one of the most important passages in the Bible. God told Abraham to leave everything familiar — his country, his people, his father’s household — and go to an unknown destination. In exchange, God made three promises: a great nation, a great name, and a blessing to all nations through him. Abraham obeyed, not knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11:8). The promise that ‘all the families of the earth shall be blessed’ through Abraham finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:16, 29). The entire Old Testament story flows from this call. Abraham’s faith was not perfect — he made serious mistakes — but God counted his faith as righteousness (Genesis 15:6).

Connection to the Gospel

God promised Abraham that through him, ‘all the families of the earth shall be blessed’ — a promise fulfilled in Jesus, Abraham’s descendant (Galatians 3:8).
