Scripture: Genesis 6:9-9:17
Theme: God judges sin but saves those who trust Him
Age Group: 4th-6th Grade (Ages 9-12)
Lesson Overview
Genesis 6-9 tells the story of Noah, the most righteous man of his generation. God saw that every inclination of the human heart was only evil continually. He judged the earth with a flood. But Noah found grace in God’s eyes. God gave Noah absurdly specific instructions to build an ark — 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, 45 feet high. Noah obeyed completely (Genesis 6:22). For decades, he built while the world mocked. The flood came, and God shut the door. After the waters receded, God established a covenant with Noah, sealed by the rainbow. This story is a picture of salvation: judgment is coming, but God provides a way of escape for those who trust Him. Peter explicitly connects Noah’s salvation through water to baptism (1 Peter 3:20-21). Jesus compared His coming to the days of Noah (Matthew 24:37-39).
Connection to the Gospel
Noah’s ark saved those inside from judgment. Jesus is our ark — those who trust Him are saved from God’s judgment (1 Peter 3:20-21).
