Cain and Abel — 1st-3rd Grade (Ages 6-9)

Cain and Abel is a free Sunday school lesson for 1st-3rd Grade (Ages 6-9), covering Genesis 4:1-16.

Theme: God looks at the heart, not just the outside

Cain and Abel each brought an offering to God. Abel brought the best of his flock; Cain brought some of his crops. God looked with favor on Abel’s offering but not Cain’s. Cain became furious. God warned him that sin was crouching at his door, but Cain didn’t listen. He killed his brother Abel. God sees what’s in our hearts — He cares about why we do things, not just what we do.

Gospel Connection: Cain’s anger led to murder. Jesus teaches that anger in the heart is sin (Matthew 5:21-22).
