Scripture: Genesis 3:1-24
Theme: Sin separates us from God, but God provides a way back
Age Group: High School (10th-12th Grade)
Lesson Overview
Genesis 3 presents the most consequential event in human history outside of the crucifixion. The Fall introduced threefold alienation: from God (spiritual death), from each other (shame, blame, conflict), and from creation (thorny ground, painful work). Every human problem — addiction, abuse, war, environmental destruction — traces to this rupture. Yet God’s response in Genesis 3:15 is grace: He promises a Redeemer. Theologians call this the protoevangelium — the first Gospel. The rest of Scripture is the outworking of this promise. Romans 5:12-21 contrasts Adam’s trespass with Christ’s obedience. The first Adam brought death; the last Adam brings life.
Connection to the Gospel
The serpent crushed the heel of the woman’s offspring — Jesus — but Jesus crushed the serpent’s head on the cross (Hebrews 2:14).
