John Prepares the Way for Jesus — Grades 4–6 Lesson (Matthew 3; John 1)

Free grades 4–6 Sunday school lesson on Matthew 3:1–17 and John 1:29–34. This reviewed 8-page PDF includes two pages of volunteer background, a timed teaching plan, printable source study and answer key, a John 1:29 KJV memory excerpt, and a family page.

Read John the Baptist’s call to repentance and warning, Jesus’ baptism with the Spirit’s descent and the Father’s voice, and John’s testimony that Jesus is the Lamb of God and Son of God. The guide distinguishes Matthew’s account from John’s testimony, avoids implying that Jesus repented, and connects the passages to the later gospel.
