Church Pastor Job Description (Part time or bivocational) Small rural Independent Baptist Church in the upstate southern tier region of New York seeking a devoted and passionate Church Pastor to join our congregation. The Church Pastor will provide spiritual leadership to members, plan weekly sermons, conduct weddings, funerals and baptisms, and act as a caring figurehead to the community. The Church Pastor will also engage church attendees in beneficial discussions, encourage volunteering and community service, and stimulate dialogue about faith and morality, providing discipleship, edification and encouraging spiritual growth of the congregation. Responsibilities Planning and delivering weekly sermons. Guiding the spiritual and pastoral care of the congregation. Performing religious services, including weddings, baptisms and funerals. Visiting and counselling church members and assist them in times of personal crisis. Organizing and leading Bible study groups. Encouraging church members to be active in the community and support charitable causes. Maintaining the church’s financial records and ensuring transparency in financial dealings. Participating in community events and fostering strong relationships with community leaders and members. Delegating tasks as needed to the extent possible to assure above needs are met and to encourage active participation and development of members. Qualifications Ordained minister in good standing within the church, inspired by the Holy Spirit. Strong belief, knowledge and understanding of the Holy Bible and the teachings of Christ as the inerrant word of God. Excellent public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire a congregation. Compassionate and understanding with strong counselling skills. Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Divinity or a related field preferred but not required.
