The position involves mentoring, outreach, and leading various programs. This role involves nurturing and spiritual growth of young people, building relationships with them and their families, and developing engaging activities and events. Effective ministers are team players. Working with other staff members and supporting the overall direction of the church leadership is paramount. Additionally, no successful ministry occurs without volunteers (Together Everyone Accomplishes More). This position expands beyond student ministry and incorporates other areas of ministry. The Associate Pastor in Student Ministries aids the Senior Pastor in various church functions – including preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and administrative leadership. Primarily, their role is to guide and mentor students, fostering spiritual and emotional growth through various activities and programs. They will organize youth group meetings, Bible studies, retreats, and community service projects, while also providing counseling and support in a Christ-centered manner. The goal is to help youth connect with their faith, develop character, and prepare for life after high school. Additionally, the Associate Pastor in Student Ministries will work closely with the Senior Pastor and other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the church and the spiritual growth of its members—as it is sincerely hoped that the individual called to this position will grow into the position of a Senior Pastor. Job Responsibilities & Duties Youth Program Management Organizing and overseeing youth events, retreats, mission trips, local mission projects, visiting middle and high schools weekly, and other activities Propose and administer the yearly youth budget Stay current with youth ministry practices by reading and attending conferences Integrate youth ministry in all phases of church life Parent and Community Engagement Build relationships with parents and adults Collaborate with schools and community organizations Preaching and Teaching Maintain an active youth/young adult program Deliver sermons as needed and lead Bible studies Develop teaching materials Preach and teach in absence of Senior Pastor Pastoral Care Provide spiritual guidance, counseling, and support Ministry Leadership Oversee ministry areas and lead worship services Develop and execute ministry programs Staff and Volunteer Management Support and mentor staff and volunteers Coordinate church activities Church Outreach and Engagement Develop outreach strategies to attract and retain members Engage with the local community Collaboration and Support Work closely with Senior Pastor and staff to achieve church goals Administrative Duties Assist with event planning, communication, and financial management Education & Experience Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in theology or related field Ordination: Required or willing Experience: Youth ministry, preaching, teaching, counseling Spiritual maturity: Strong faith and commitment Communication and leadership skills Organizational and administrative skills Additional responsibilities as needed General Requirements Arrive 45 minutes prior to scheduled events Grow youth ministry Weekly mentoring by Senior Pastor Attend worship and meetings Give financially (tithe) Participate in yearly performance review Present yearly budget Stay current with youth ministry practices Preach/teach when needed Church Photo Gallery About the Brookhaven, MS Community Brookhaven is located in Lincoln County in Southwest, MS. The city population is approximately 12,000, with the County population being approximately 32,000. There is excellent public and private education, healthcare, and quality of life. We have a very vibrant downtown area. Brookhaven is home to the MS School of the Arts, which has students attending from all areas of the State.
