How to Memorize the Rescue Gospel Framework in 10 Minutes

How to Memorize the Rescue Gospel Framework in 10 Minutes

The Rescue Gospel framework is four words: Created. Broken. Rescued. Respond. You can learn those four words in 10 minutes. Making them second nature takes a little longer, but not much.

The Rescue Gospel is designed to be simple enough to learn quickly and memorable enough to use for life. The four movements, Created, Broken, Rescued, Respond, are not arbitrary. They follow the narrative arc of Scripture and the logic of the gospel in a sequence that is easy to remember and easy to explain.

Here is how to learn them in 10 minutes and make them stick.

Step 1: Learn the Four Words (2 minutes)

Say these four words out loud, in order, three times:

Created. Broken. Rescued. Respond.

Now say them without looking. If you can say them in order, you have the framework. Everything else is explanation.

Step 2: Connect Each Word to One Sentence (4 minutes)

For each word, learn one sentence that captures the movement:

  • Created: “God made us to know him.”
  • Broken: “Sin separated us from God, and we cannot fix it ourselves.”
  • Rescued: “Jesus came to do what we could not, he died for our sin and rose from the dead.”
  • Respond: “The rescue only works if you accept it, trusting Jesus means turning from living your own way.”

Say each word and its sentence out loud, in order, twice. Now you have the framework and the core content of each movement.

Step 3: Add One Scripture Anchor to Each Movement (3 minutes)

You do not need to memorize chapter and verse. You need to know which part of the Bible each movement comes from:

  • Created: Genesis 1, “In the beginning, God created…”
  • Broken: Romans 3, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
  • Rescued: John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…”
  • Respond: Romans 10, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart…”

Step 4: Practice Out Loud (1 minute)

Say the full framework out loud, in your own words, without looking at anything. It does not have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.

Making It Stick

Practice in the car

Your commute is the best practice time you have. Say the four movements. Say the one-sentence version of each. Say the 60-second version. Do this every day for a week and the framework will be second nature.

Practice with your family

Tell your spouse or your children what you are learning. Walk them through the four movements. Ask them to ask you questions. The act of explaining it to someone else is the most effective way to internalize it.

Practice with a friend

Find one person, a church member, a small group member, a friend, and practice the Rescue Gospel with them. Have them play the role of a skeptical friend. Answer their questions. Debrief together. This is the closest thing to a real conversation you can get without having one.

Use it in a real conversation

The only way to truly internalize the framework is to use it. Find one person this week to have a genuine conversation with. It does not have to be a full gospel presentation. It can be one movement, “Can I tell you something I believe?”, and see where it goes.

The goal is not to memorize a script. The goal is to internalize a map.
When you know the four movements well enough that you do not have to think about them, you are free to focus on the person in front of you. Their questions, their objections, their story. That is when the framework becomes genuinely useful.
