Lesson Overview

The Isaac narrative reveals God’s pattern of working through human impossibility. Abraham was ‘as good as dead’ (Hebrews 11:12), Sarah was barren, yet God promised a son. Paul uses this in Romans 4:18-21 to illustrate faith that ‘gives glory to God’ even when circumstances contradict the promise. The name Isaac (‘he laughs’) transforms doubt into joy. This pattern — God doing the impossible — culminates in the resurrection. The same God who opened Sarah’s womb raised Jesus from the dead.

Connection to the Gospel

Abraham and Sarah were too old for children — but God gave them Isaac. With God, even impossible things are possible (Luke 1:37).
