Scripture: Genesis 12:1-9
Theme: God calls us to follow Him in faith, even when we don’t know the way
Age Group: High School (10th-12th Grade)
Lesson Overview
The Abrahamic call and covenant (Genesis 12-22) is the theological foundation for salvation by faith. Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness (Genesis 15:6) — 430 years before Sinai, before the law. Paul uses this to argue that justification has always been by faith, not works (Romans 4; Galatians 3). The promise that ‘all nations’ would be fulfilled in Abraham’s seed (singular — Christ, Galatians 3:16) reveals that God’s plan was always global. Israel’s election was never about privilege alone — it was instrumental, a means of blessing all peoples.
Connection to the Gospel
God promised Abraham that through him, ‘all the families of the earth shall be blessed’ — a promise fulfilled in Jesus, Abraham’s descendant (Galatians 3:8).
