Scripture: Genesis 3:1-24
Theme: Sin separates us from God, but God provides a way back
Age Group: Junior High (7th-9th Grade)
Lesson Overview
The Fall in Genesis 3 is the hinge of human history. The serpent’s strategy — doubt God’s word, deny God’s judgment, distort God’s character — is the same strategy he uses today. Adam and Eve’s sin brought three consequences: separation from God, broken relationships, and cursed work. Every human problem traces back to this moment. But Genesis 3:15 contains the first Gospel promise: a descendant of the woman would crush the serpent. This promise drives the entire Old Testament — God narrowing the line from Eve to Abraham to David to Jesus. Without the Fall, there is no need for a Savior.
Connection to the Gospel
The serpent crushed the heel of the woman’s offspring — Jesus — but Jesus crushed the serpent’s head on the cross (Hebrews 2:14).
