Regular Meeting Ideas (Weekly or Bi-Weekly)

These ideas work for your regular youth group meeting and can be rotated throughout the year.

1. Testimony Night , Invite one student each week to share their faith story in 5 minutes. Have a leader go first to model vulnerability.
2. Question Box , Students submit anonymous questions about faith, life, or the Bible. The leader answers them honestly. Surfaces questions students are afraid to ask publicly.
3. Movie Night with Discussion , Watch a film with spiritual themes and discuss it afterward. Use the discussion questions as a guide.
4. Cooking Together , Have students cook a meal together. The process creates natural conversation. Eat together afterward.
5. Prayer Walk , Walk through the community praying for specific homes, businesses, and community institutions. Teach students to see their town as a mission field.
6. Bible Journaling Night , Provide journaling Bibles, art supplies, and prompts. A quiet night of reflective Bible reading and creative response.
7. Debate Night , Present two sides of a theological or ethical question and have students argue both sides. Teaches critical thinking and how to engage ideas.
8. Worship Night , A simple worship service led by students. No production required , just guitars, voices, and honest prayer.
9. Book Club , Read a book together over several weeks. Discuss one chapter per meeting. Choose books that engage faith and culture.
10. Skill Share , Each student teaches the group something they know how to do. Reveals gifts and builds community.

Special Events (Monthly or Quarterly)

These ideas work as special events that break the routine and create memorable experiences.

13. Escape Room , Build a simple escape room using puzzles, locks, and clues. Free templates are available online. Takes 2-3 hours to build and 45 minutes to run.
14. Cooking Competition , Teams compete to make the best dish from a limited set of ingredients. Students eat the results.
15. Scavenger Hunt , A community scavenger hunt that requires students to interact with local businesses and community members.
16. Sports Tournament , A single-elimination tournament in a sport your students enjoy. Works with as few as 4 students.
17. Talent Show , Students perform whatever they want. No judgment. Surprisingly revealing and often hilarious.
18. Camping Trip , Even one night outdoors creates a different kind of community. Campfire conversations go deeper than classroom conversations.
19. Road Trip , Visit another church’s youth group, a Christian college, or a ministry in a nearby city. Expands students’ vision of the church.

Service Project Ideas

21. Yard Work for Elderly Neighbors , Mow lawns, rake leaves, or shovel snow for elderly or disabled neighbors.
22. Back-to-School Supply Drive , Collect and distribute school supplies for families who cannot afford them.
23. Community Cleanup , Adopt a stretch of road, a park, or a community space and clean it up.
24. Meal Delivery , Prepare and deliver meals to homebound church members or community members.
25. Blessing Bags , Assemble small bags with practical items for people experiencing homelessness.
26. Nursing Home Visit , Spend an afternoon visiting with residents who rarely have visitors.
27. Community Garden , Plant and maintain a community garden that donates produce to families in need.
28. Thank You Cards for First Responders , Write and deliver thank you cards to the local fire department, police department, or EMS.

Discipleship Activities

These ideas focus on the long-term spiritual formation of students rather than a single meeting.

29. One-on-One Discipleship , Pair each student with a leader for monthly one-on-one meetings. The most effective discipleship tool available.
30. Bible Reading Plan , Give every student the same reading plan and discuss what they are reading each week.
31. Memorization Challenge , Challenge students to memorize one verse per week for a month. Celebrate at the end.
32. Prayer Partners , Pair students as prayer partners who pray for each other daily and check in weekly.
33. Spiritual Gifts Assessment , Help students identify their spiritual gifts and find ways to use them in the church.
34. Mentoring Relationships , Connect each student with an adult church member (not a youth leader) for a mentoring relationship.
35. Mission Trip , Even a local one-day mission trip expands students’ vision and creates shared experience.

Outreach Ideas

These ideas help students see their everyday lives as mission fields.

36. Invite a Friend Week , Challenge every student to invite one friend who does not attend church to the next meeting.
37. School Prayer Walk , Walk around the local school praying for students, teachers, and administrators.
38. Rescue Gospel Training , Teach students the Rescue Gospel framework so they can share their faith with friends.
39. Community Event Presence , Show up at community events (fairs, games, festivals) as a group to build relationships.
40. Adopt a Neighbor , Each student adopts one neighbor to pray for, serve, and build a relationship with over the course of a year.
