Scripture Scramble

Category: Bible Review | Group Size: 4–30 | Time: 15–20 minutes

How to Play

Teams race to unscramble a Bible verse.

  1. Choose a Bible verse and scramble the words (write each word on a separate card or slip of paper).
  2. Divide into teams. Give each team the same scrambled verse.
  3. On “Go,” teams race to put the words in the correct order.
  4. First team to get it exactly right wins the round.
  5. Play 3–5 rounds with different verses.

Verse Suggestions

  • John 3:16 — short and familiar
  • Philippians 4:13 — medium length
  • Romans 8:28 — good for discussion
  • Jeremiah 29:11 — popular and encouraging
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 — two verses, more challenging
  • Psalm 23:1-3 — longer, great for memorization

Leader Tips

  • Write the reference on the board so teams know what they are working toward.
  • For younger groups, use shorter verses. For older groups, try longer passages.
  • After each round, read the verse together and discuss what it means.
  • This doubles as a memory verse activity.

Variations

  • No reference: Don’t tell them the verse reference. They must figure it out from the words.
  • Speed scramble: Give teams 60 seconds per verse.
  • Memory version: Show the scrambled verse for 30 seconds, then hide it. Teams must reconstruct from memory.

Why It Works

Scripture Scramble combines Bible knowledge with teamwork and competition.

Scripture Connection

“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” — Psalm 119:11 (ESV)
