Bible Story

God Calls Little Abraham

God loves you so much! One day, God whispered, “Come with me.” Abraham was very old, but God said, “I will take care of you.”

God said, “Leave your home, go far away.” Abraham packed his things and followed God’s command. God promised, “I will give you a big family!”

When Abraham arrived in a strange land, God showed him a place. There were trees and flowers everywhere. “This is your home now!” God said with a big smile.

Abraham bowed down and worshipped God. “You are my God, and I love You!” he said. God was happy to hear him.

God’s love is like sunshine, always there for you! Even when things seem far away, God is always with us.

This story shows that God calls us all. He loves us and wants to be close to us, just like He did with Abraham.

Discussion Questions

  1. Here are four simple, open-ended discussion questions about God’s love from the story of Abraham:
  2. God said, “Go!” What do you think God wants you to do today? Can you tell me one way you trust God to help you?
  3. (Repeat: “God loves you very much!”)
  4. Abraham and Sarah left everything to follow God. What do you think was the hardest part for them? What is something new God might want you to try today?
  5. God promised Abraham he would have many children. How can God promise big things to you too? Can you think of one way God’s love is like a promise? (Repeat: “You are God’s special child!”*)
  6. When we follow God, sometimes we feel scared or unsure. What is one way you know God will be there with you, just like He was with Abraham? (Repeat: “God calls you by name! He loves you!”)

Prayer Focus

“Dear God, love us so much! You made us and hold us tight like a hug. You call us, just like You called Abraham, with love in Your heart. Thank You for being our Father who loves us always! (Amen.) (Practice with:) “God loves you! God loves me!” (Hold hands or circle arms around each other.)

Missions Spotlight

Abraham’s story is central to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Missionaries working among Muslim communities in Central Asia often begin with Abraham, a figure all three faiths honor, to build bridges to the Gospel.

To the Cross

God promised Abraham that ‘all peoples on earth will be blessed through you’ (Genesis 12:3). This blessing is Jesus Christ, a descendant of Abraham through whom salvation comes to all nations.

Family Take-Home

In Genesis 12, God tells Abraham to leave his home and go to a new land, promising him many descendants and blessings. Even though Abraham was uncertain, he trusted God’s word and followed, showing how faith leads to adventure and trust in God’s plan.
