Fox News 31 in Denver recently ran a story about teens getting sexual solicitations from adults over Xbox Live. I was first a bit surprised when i read this story, then it made sense. Sexual predators did not change to make this start happening. They just continued the behavior that they usually operate with. To find a target that is a child, go where there are children. As parents, teachers, ministers, and caregivers, we have forgotten their methods.
- Why did MySpace purge their membership database of Sex Offenders?
- Why does Facebook continually do much to enhance privacy controls?
- What are we doing in the church? What do we need to do to protect our children.
I’m in no way encouraging a bunker mentality, but I am encouraging wisdom, supervision, and Godly instruction to help protect our children and teens. As adults we should encourage our children in a proactive, not reactive way to strive for a purity of mind, body and spirit that can only be accomplished through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
This week, our students start a study based on ” The Purity Code” by Jim Burns. It is not designed to be all or end all, but a help along the way.
