I first met Mike Wilson at the Youth Encounter Conference in Springfield, Illinois in December of 2009. He gave pieces of his ministry, mission and testimony throughout the sessions that he spoke to the students in attendance. He spoke of the tests and trials associated with adopting a child from an orphanage in Haiti. His booth sold shirts to help finance the costs associated with that process (I thought that was very creative). When news of the Haiti Earthquake struck, Mike and his wife Missy were the first thoughts I had. What if this keeps them from being able to adopt this child they have put so much time, love prayers and resources into rescuing? Then I felt an assurance from God that they would be okay. A couple days later, through a Facebook post, I learned that Mike was on the ground and they had found little Tia (Age 5). Great. God protected her, thank you, Lord. Then I thought, wow she has to survive through this for several more months until the adoption process can be complete, wow…I was wrong again. I ran across this story from a twitter post from one of the Lifeway accounts. Tia is home, safe, healthy and loved very much by her new family and friends. This story gives me a physical tangible example of what our HS students are studying on Sunday mornings “The Bible is the story of God rescuing people, and we’re the ones being rescued”. God protected this little girl for His purpose and glory. No doubt about it.
